Catching up.

I am not at home tonight.  I'm actually in a town about 45 miles from my place.  Came down here to do some browsing and spend the night.  My wife was not home this weekend and so I decided to have a change of pace .

I am writing this on a little kindle, with a tiny little keyboard that connects to it via blue tooth. I could probably figure out how to put pictures in the post but I don't have any so it isn't worth fiddling with to learn.

Very cold down here, which is odd because my home is much higher in elevation. However, there's a lake right next to where I am staying so maybe that has something to do with it.

I will go over the blog tomorrow and check to see who has posted on theirs, and I'll make sure I didn't miss any comments.  Right now, I'm just enjoying a good book after a good supper. A change of pace is just what I needed.

By the way,  my brother sent me the first season of The Walking Dead on DVD, so I will start watching that. He said if I liked it he would send me the rest of them.  He never keeps DVD's once he has watched them, so I get some good one's from him.  I lent him my copy of The Pacific, and it is being sent around the extended family so I am not being one way on the deal.

  1. Dunno if your thekind of person who is turned off by gore, but be aware that, obviously, this show has a tremendous amount of graphic gore. I mention it because I know some folks in the police/military crowd who were a bit surprised by it and it triggered some unpleasant memories for them. So..be advised.

Otherwise, its a fairly entertaining series. It takes a few episodes to get its feet under itself, but once it does it's rather compelling. Let us know if you enjoy it.

    1. I appreciate the thought. I got through "the Pacific " so I should be able to handle this one though I know exactly what you are talking about.

Everybody says it is good. I've seen it on the Direct TV a bunch of times, but I didn't really want to just jump in there in the middle of the series.

  2. Hmmm I would call it light to medium gore on average myself but there are a few graphic instances thrown in here and there. Mostly ripping tendons from necks.

"The Walking Dead" Is a comedy. They should name it 1 Million things NOT to do in a zombie apocalypse.

Just remember PP's first rule of the Zombie apocalypse.

When waking from a coma and you see half a decomposed body crawling towards you snapping it's jaws change your clothes before having a break down on your front steps.

    Almost as important as:

Never put your medical person on point. Which they violate in the 3rd season.

    1. It's interesting that some folks say it is really good from the survivalist perspective, and others point out flaws in it. I guess like almost all such shows, I'll look for useful things and engage in the willing suspension of disbelief about the off the wall stuff. Who ever goes on point, it won't be me if it ever comes to it. ;-)

    1. Hey, good to hear from you. Lots of people have been just dropping off the air lately and I was getting concerned you might have. That would be a disappointment for a lot of reasons, not least the outstanding lizards that live there in the outback, and also the monster trucks are good too!

  4. Hey Harry. Hope you had a lovely supper in town.

I am watching the Walking Dead as I type! In some ways TV programmes like this are quite good at getting 'normal civvies', like myself to think a little about what you would do in a dire situation. Take the comment from one of the girls at work. She said, she would collect as many canned goods and water in her camping water carriers. and head to North Wales where they have family on a farm at the bottom of the mountains. So it does have some impact. even if they don't realise it.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if you could down load skills like in the film the Matrix. We are slightly more skilled than say our neighbours. due to our adventure holidays in Greece sailing. I am sure there are some clues in there for people as to where I am going, if TSHTF. And it isn't Wales.

P.s. we shout at the screen as when they go scavenging in shops etc. No one ever guards the way they went in. whats up with that?! In all these fantasy type of programmes, this and Revolution. it would seem a sword is the best weapon.

Lol I cant wait for your to do a post on what you think of walking dead

    1. Sol,
You can pick up a lot of ideas from watching this type of show, as you say. I watched the first season of revolution, but missed the second when it came back on television and they were half way through the season before I knew it was on again.

Your friend has a good bug out plan, the further from a city, the better. There are more kinds of Walking Dead than Zombies. If people get a chance to do whatever they want to do, a lot of them are going to opt for very unpleasant activities.

I'm a fan of guns, myself. I don't like getting too close to an adversary. But as the British soldier remarked at Isandlwana, spears don't run out of ammunition. Swords are the same way. I have some I bought when I was stationed in Japan that are pretty nice. Whether I would want to use them to battle the Golden Horde is another question!

I watched a movie with my brother and some of his buddies once. When the monster appeared, they yelled at the screen and threw empty beer cans and pop corn. I guess they were into audience participation in a big way. ;-)

  5. If you try to watch it for the entertainment value, and not nitpick it to death for the mistakes you'll undoubtedly catch, you'll enjoy it more.

    1. As long as it isn't too bad, I'm ok with it. I admit I am obsessive in some respects, particularly as regards weapons and equipment in war movies, but in a movie about Zombies I guess that shouldn't be a problem.

  6. Enjoy your break away, even if it's just for the one night.

  7. Dreamer, I'm back home now. It was just a spur of the moment thing. I wanted to get out for awhile, but I didn't want to travel far. It was nice to have a change.
