Is this happening to anyone else when they come to this blog?

Suddenly whenever I log onto my blog an advertisement pops up in the lower right hand corner and starts running a video selling something or other. Is that happening to anyone else when they read the blog?

Any ideas how to get rid of it?

  1. Well, if it isn't happening to anyone else I guess I can keep closing the window on the add but it's aggravating as hell. I couldn't stand it if people thought I was putting that on my blog. Besides, I never know what the thing will advertise, it always seems to be something different. So far it hasn't been anything embarrassing but you never know. I don't have a clue how to get rid of it, obviously my virus protection program fell down on the job at some point.

  2. Yes, it's on my blog too and I have no idea how to rid myself of it.

  3. Stephen, you mean it pops up on your blog, or that when you look at mine it is popping up?

    1. I don't see it on either of your blogs, nor when I sign into blogger. My guess is that y'all picked up a cookie somewhere.

    2. Russell, if that's right all i have to do is empty my history. Of course, then every time I go to pay a bill on line I'll have to reenter all my passwords and such, until the cookies I need are replaced, correct?

  4. You might be able to block it with Ghostery or Ad Block, but it May interfere with you being able to log in. Google/Blogger has gotten smart and figure out how to block these privacy software packages.

    1. I'm not seeing it when I log into Google. Google now has a one "sign on" for all of it's services.

    2. Ghostery doesn't play well with Flash for most folks using Firefox.

Harry, if you're using Firefox, go to
Tools> Options> Content> then check the "Block Pop Ups" box. That might cure it.

    3. Every time I try to put some new program on here to fix something, it messes up 10 other things. I use AdAware and they tout themselves as blocking all this junk but clearly they don't. I swear, I'm totally hooked into computers for everything from keeping up with my family and friends, to paying my bills, to buying stuff but they are the most frustrating devices since variable pitch propellers.

    4. Alas, I already have pop up blocker engaged on Firefox. A little "bar" comes up on the top of my screen when something tries to pop up and gives me options, but when this video window comes on the blog nothing happens at all with the pop up bar. Like you, I thought it was a pop up but I wonder because it only comes on my blog, not any other time.

    5. @ Anon: this is true. I have sacrificed a cerain amount of usability for security as Flash is known for it's security issues.

  5. Nope I don't see it.If you don't have adblock that could help.I would have to see it to offer anything remotely intelligent.Good luck

    2. Since it is only happening on the blog, I am going to look at the template and see if I see anything that looks out of place . I hate to delete my cookies, it's a major evolution to get it all back on there afterwards.

    1. Kymber, at least I know it is not showing up when other people log on, which is a huge relief. I ran a full scan with "Scan Disk" and am running another full scan with AdWare right now. If that doesn't work, I guess I will have to empty my history files and redo all my cookies for the pages I use to pay bills.

    1. Tania, I ran two scans with two different programs and came up with nothing. It's always something with the internet. Fix one issue and another one crops up. >:-(

    1. Kathy,
I am going to delete all my cookies if it keeps up. I don't want that thing constantly bothering me.

  9. I don't see one. I use Wordpress for my blog and about a month ago they started putting ads at the bottom of some of my posts. They sent me a message saying I could prevent this by paying a ransom. Oh well, the blog is free otherwise, I guess if I want it to be ad free, I'll have to pay the 30 bucks a year.

    1. Swamp Dog, that seems like a bad thing to do to people who use their program. I couldn't stand that but I'd not want to give in to their ploy and fork over the money, either.
