Very Strange

It is raining hard here, on and off, and has been since late last night.  The outside temperature is 71 degrees at the moment. That's absurdly warm for December.  Supposedly that cold front that is pummeling the mid west with ice is going to pass through here and give us some thunderstorms. I can't remember a year with such contrary weather, it's like living in one of those terrible SyFi Channel made for tv movies.

I bought some more .223 ammunition.  It can go in the long term stocks, because I haven't been shooting in a long time.  The price was so much better than Walmart's though, that I really felt like I couldn't give it a miss.

440 rounds of military issue 5.56, on strippers in a can. I think I paid $218.00 including shipping, because I had a coupon code that saved me some money. If you buy from Sportsmans Guide, you can go to a web page and pick from a number of coupon codes, things like "$20.00 off" or "free shipping."

I only have three weapons chambered for this cartridge. An Olympic Arms AR-15 from 1994, a late 1980's Colt SP-1, and a stainless steel Ruger Mini-14.  I'm more of an AK-47 / SKS guy myself. But it never hurts to have some variety in your tools, because you don't know what kind of ammo may come your way on the day.

While I was in town this afternoon I picked up some more things for our medical supplies, and some canned goods that were on sale.  When I find a good price on canned things I buy several cases. It saves a lot of money in the long run.

The Colt SP-1 is light, so it's a good working gun.

My brother and his girl friend are down at his place in Mazatlan. He sends me pictures of the beach and the restaurants, etc .  Looks like a nice place but I am not sure I'd want to live there.

He tells me where the expatriates live is very safe, but there are articles on the internet about touristas getting thumped and robbed right there. When  I want to go to the beach I think I will stick to Florida. My concealed carry permit is valid there, or it was.

I heard something about Florida not recognizing any out of state permits after the Zimmerman Carnival. I don't know if it's true or not, but I guess I better find out before I go back down there.

At any rate, I've accomplished enough  not to feel guilty about calling  it a day.  I need to decide what to make for my supper, and finish a few things outside. Then the rest of the evening I plan on reading.

  1. I don't blame you one bit about not going to Mexico. I spent a little time down there off and on several years ago and although I never felt in danger Mexico struck me as a place that can go from party to homicide in a very short amount of time. It also had this strange wide spectrum attitude like you could find places that were more warm and friendly than anywhere in the states but that same coin had a reverse and could be worse than any nightmare you could find in the states as well.

    1. Mexico is not one of my favorite places. I used to go down to Juarez with my buddies from the UNM reserve unit back in the early 1970's, but it was a different country then. Now people are getting killed in Acapulco and buried in shallow graves, it's just not the kind of atmosphere I feel is conducive to rest and recreation. I guess if you stay right there by the condos in Mazatlan you might be ok, but then again, you might not. Some German tourists got messed up there pretty badly not so long ago.

  2. Your concealed license is still good here. Yes, weather is quite strange for this time of year. I saw 80 on my outside temp gauge in my truck today.

    1. That's good to know. It would have put me in a real quandary if they no longer recognized mine. I have a lot of links to Florida but I don't go where I can't carry.

I was walking around outside in summer clothes today and still got hot. I don't remember it ever being this warm here this time of year.

  3. The weather is just plain wonky right now. 99% of the country is in a deep freeze, except here. It was in the 80s!

    1. I guess I should be grateful that the weather people are saying the ice won't reach us here. It was so warm here today the dogs and I went to the waterfall and got hot walking back.

    1. I imagine your kids really enjoyed the change and the chance to get out. We have had an awful lot of rain and we are supposed to get more over the next three days. That is going to cause problems.

  5. the weather is crazy over here. Floods, houses being washed away, huge tidal surges. There really must be something to this global warming...

    1. Or it could just be our turn in the barrel. Every ten years or so we get a period of unusual weather here, though I have no idea why. This is the warmest I can remember it being this time of year, and it is the same way today as it was yesterday, hot and humid.

  6. It looks like a wonderful place to live to me.

The weather has been odd for two years actually. We got the cold front. It is super cold! It makes it feel like Christmas time all the more.

    1. I am sitting here tonight listening to torrential rain beating on the roof. The Weather forecast predicts 5 inches of rain between tonight and Sunday night. I'd just as soon have snow, as long as there was no ice mixed in with it.
