What's the point?

This came in anonymously.  I know that some parts of the account, that I personally was involved in, are accurate. In all probability , this is the truth.

July 16, 2014 Cro Magnon on his blog Magnon's Meaderings posts this:http://magnonsmeanderings.blogspot.com/2014/07/theyre-in-news-again.html
A somewhat surprisingly conservative post for what is otherwise a usually effete bohemian expat Brit painter posting about the good life in southern France. A few followers comment in support of Israel and the usual bunch of euro weenies spout their vile rage against them. Outstanding among them one Adrian. https://www.blogger.com/profile/07113961163396562781Who in an vulgar attempt to silence any views differing from his own lets everyone know of his outrage at what Israel is doing against Hamas, and amidst an emotional barrage of profanities swears he will shut down Cro's blog for expressing his opinion against what Hamas was doing. Cro tells him to stuff it. After a day or so, Adrian's comment is removed. Soon after that a series of anonymous comments signed by Addy, Eddy, Aaron appear with the same profanity laced tirades and identical verbiage used by Adrian whenever Cro post about news events involving Hamas, ISIS, Syria or the subject in general. When Yael posts a comment thanking Cro for his support some of Cro's followers visit Yael's page. Israel is under attack by indiscriminate Hammas rocket fire. Yael post about how this affects her daily life and some attempt to give her encouragement and support. Any time any one makes a comment in favor of Israel on her blog they are summarily attacked by the same character making the same points as Adrian did previously on Cro's blog, usually posting anonymously but signing their seething verbal abuse variably as Addy, Eddy, Aaron and a few others. Addy is Brit shorthand for Adrian. Some time late 2014 the name Sara Miller first makes an appearance carrying on with the same theme and making the same points. Comments are usually some hollow off kilter shallow statement but worded just so that you can read the rude innuendo and seething anger. Always making a veiled attempt at misdirecting the reader by apologizing for her bad English. Oddly enough the tirades often slip in to perfect and quite complex diction blowing her cover. Cro and Yael seem to let it slide. Sara continues to send comments varying from the inane yet hinting at a subliminal anger, to the downright profane but always making the same tired argument and using the same verbiage as Adrian first did on Cro's page.

It is almost certain the individual behind all this is Adrian.

I know people can masquerade as anyone or anything on the internet. What I don't understand is why? What's the point of doing so?

  1. Hey Harry,

That's just to bad. Someone or someone's spending way, way too much time trashing other people constantly on the internet.

If I lived in France or the South of France. I would find a nice French girlfriend and try to enjoy life.

Now I would not be surprised at all if the above charactors were a muslim living in a ghetto and who was not integrating well in French society. If that's the case, the French muslim may be happier returning to their native lands and get a life worth living.

    1. Why go to all the trouble of setting up a bunch of different on line personalities though? Couldn't a person be just as big a jackass with just one username, and still be themselves. Why would a guy want to pretend he was a girl, etc?

      That's messed up.

    2. I don't think having a French girlfriend would work out too well. It's all fine and dandy until politics come up. Think about it.

Harry, I think these bloggers are paid. The Soros machine hard at work trying to influence the global leftist agenda. --T

    3. Troy, the thing is, sending me comments calling me foul names, and even more so, calling my wife foul names, is hardly calculated to win me over to the Borg. I just can't figure it.

I think that somebody is sick. Other than being crazy I can't come up with any motivation for what this guy / person whatever the hell spends so much time doing.

I don't know what the french girl thing was about. Maybe to make the person more interesting so I would be inclined to post the comments, but if somebody described themselves as a blind leper I'd post their comments as long as they were decent.

    4. Hey Anonymous,

      (captaincrunch)

I still could go or a French girlfriend. She would be only a girlfriend and I would keep my mouth shut about politics. I actually do get tired of all this crap. I go surfing. I watch a movie online. I like to tinker on Diesel pickup trucks and I play with CB radio's. I do other things Redneck things too. I listen also to outlaw country music and I plan to hang a Pirate flag on my house.

If all we did was prepare for disaster. We would be miserable individuals.

  2. Harry - i have no idea??? we try to be real on our blogs, a bunch of us (tho we have been accused of being fake or something?) - but a bunch of us are just trying to share our lives and our outlooks and trying to make friends...i have no idea Harry!

from my point of view - there are a bunch of people out there that just want to cause trouble...for no other reason than for to cause trouble. i avoid those people like the plague. but the people who are real - like you and CC and Kirsty and TB - well, i am glad the internet exists so that i can know and learn from these people. all the rest - be damned!

sending much love as always! your friend,

    1. Kymber, you may be right. It just may be that these are sick people who feel empowered by playing some kind of game. I know the biggest cowards in the world are those that get on the internet and act all big and bad because they think they can't be tracked down. I watched a show on Link television about a company that will track down people on the internet and give you their real names and contact information. It is in Sweden. Sounds like something for me to look into, just as a lark.

Seems this has struck a raw nerve. There is a bit of a kerfuffle. Quite telling indeed. Sara now claims to be from Berlin. That is the trouble when people don't tell the truth. They just can't remember what lies they tell. So much easier to sort out if one sticks to the truth.

    1. Jeez. This is worse than the time the Neo-Nazi's from England got my phone number when I got into it with them over their attacking an Israeli friends blog. That was just loads of fun. Too bad they never showed up like they promised to do. Seemed unlikely they'd go to the trouble to come all the way over here to kill me and my family, but we live in hope. It was a disappointment when they turned out to be all hot air.

  4. I've just caught up on cro's blog and have no idea what they have to gain. I think replying to these comments gives them some validity sometimes and they like getting a rise out of people. It's a shame as like kymber says there are genuine people out there and on the whole most are good I think.

  8. My mum always said to me as a kid, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all'. I think that is a pretty good philosophy when making comments on a persons blog when they are posting about their personal life.
If a post expresses a political point then fair enough make a comment, but if you don't agree with an opinion, then state why, with respect.
I find it unbelievable that a person will spend their valuable time reading blogs by people they hate with polar opposite opinions to themselves, what's the point!!??

    1. Kirsty, the only thing I can think of is mental illness. A person would have to be pretty warped to do some of the deeds this particular individual has been credited with. I'd say your assessment of proper behavior on the internet is the right one. This clown that's been showing up here is only going to hurt people who share his bizarre political leanings. I won't be posting any more comments that I suspect originate from that source, where as before I tried to post any comments that were not full of vulgarity and had some actual point of view to express.

    1. Part of the problem is actually identifying the troll. Since the individual in question can ratchet his rhetoric up and down, he has the capability to come across as a fairly reasonable entity. In that case, my objection is the subterfuge involved rather than the thoughts expressed. The end result of all this is that I even catch a whiff of deceit, I'm not publishing the comment. Not necessarily a good thing, but I'm tired of messing with this.

    2. There is definitely something off kilter with that person. Never trusted them from the get go. Allowing chaos in to your space is counterproductive and will chase away those who avoid it. As Kev said engaging them in conversation of any kind only makes them feel validated and encourages them to keep it up. No need to give them a platform to pis over you and your guests. Sadly comment moderation is the only way to limit them. Then again you do not want to be running a free for all democracy here. I look upon it as a benevolent dictatorship as it should be. It is a window into your world, and if someone don't like it they can change the channel. No doubt they will attempt to reappear under a different alias. Deleting all comments that are not 100% absolutely on the level is the only way, even if it means one or two genuine ones don't pass the smell test and get chucked out with the bath water. Not sure if is any help but I remember someone saying that there is a way to block/unsubscribe troublemakers via your blog dashboard stetting. Might be worth a poke around.

    3. The problem is in identifying "them." How do you tell a person is a genuine individual with different views, and who is some weirdling casting themselves as different personalities?

I like having discussions with people who don't hold my views, it's refreshing because it makes you be on your game. It makes you stay on top of the information and the news. But I'm not going to make a big effort to do that anymore because I don't like being played.

I think the blocking thing applies to email. I know how to block problem email senders. But as far as I know, there's no way to block people who want to comment if you have the anonymous comment function enabled, which I do.

  12. Hey Harry,

    (captaincrunch)

Theres a new social media campaign (like the ice bucket challenge) Its involves going onto peoples private property and removing, stealing and defacing the Confederate Flag.

I wonder how many people will (or should be) shot on this one.

    I saw it on drudgereport.

Fine, we start a new game called, snatch the rainbow flag. See if they can prove that one as a hate crime???

I keep my flag indoors because some of my uneducated neighbors my freak out and I don't want to have to explain (and try to educate them) The scary part is that I think most don't give a shit about the first amendment (sorry for the four letter word Harry. Its about emphasizing a point) Now there are a few that I am thinking of pissing off and showing them the flag anyway.

I think I know how a German Jew may have felt in 1933.

I know the above is a harsh statement and I may take flack for that but the paraelles are the same.

Now back to the uneducated morons that have no idea what the First Amendment really is.

At some point in the future after I am dead (or dead on a beach in a central American country from too much surf and too many women) People will be rounded up for not complying with rules against illegal assemblies of extremist Christian prayer groups in the good old U.S.A.

certain flags will be illegal (Confederate and others) literature will be censured and books will be quietly shredded and burned (The writer of Farhrenhight 451, I forgot his name, will be rolling over in his grave)

I know a several uber Christians that think God will save the day and save them from 'Team Obama'

    Guess again.

at some point. They will come for all that are not believers in Team Obama and next will be all the violators and lawbreakers. Those who grow their own food and have chickens and cows. God forbid that 'Big Agra' companies have competition. Competition must be suppressed.

This is not about socialism and communism as its really about 'Forced Capitolism"

I.E. you must by this product. It is the law.

anything, any behavior or lifestyle. Any belief that contradicts the tyranny of Team Obama (or Team Hillary) will be squashed out of existence by the juggernuaght of the omnipotent Federal Machine.

Albert Einstein and others were smart. When they started to hear Hitlers bullshit. They got the hell out!

    1. There's an interesting section in "the war of the worlds" that addresses the issue of relying on God to prevent evil deeds. I have never published it for fear of alienating my religious friends.

"Things I saw with my eyes that I've only begun to see clearly these last few days. There's lots will take things as they are--fat and stupid; and lots will be worried by a sort of feeling that it's all wrong, and that they ought to be doing something. Now whenever things are so that a lot of people feel they ought to be doing something, the weak, and those who go weak with a lot of complicated thinking, always make for a sort of do-nothing religion, very pious and superior, and submit to persecution and the will of the Lord. Very likely you've seen the same thing."

I'm working hard to get out. Within six years I should be in Costa Rica. My wife and kids have all agreed to move down there and plans proceed apace.

Especially after listening to the two fools, Obama and Kerry, telling us how we can trust Iran to meet their obligations under the new "agreement", anybody who can get out had better do so ASAP.

I usually lurk and enjoy your excellent blog - I like your writing style and have learned a lot from this (and other) site(s) about Preparedness - which I regard as a responsible & mature response to the thin veneer of convenience/democracy in today's societies in First World countries.
I'm afraid I am also one of the liberals you don't like (and a socialist albeit a libertarian one) - I'm guessing on a fair few subject we wouldn't agree!
But...I wouldn't post rudely on your blog and attack you.
The folk doing this sound a little unhinged and perhaps are better filtered out - as others have said previously.
An 'element of freedom of expression' is an admirable aim - but I'm guessing these folk aren't interested in constructive/respectful dialogue.
Anyway - thanks for taking the time to share your skills and outlook for us to learn from....even us Liberals :-)

  15. Harry,

There is a flip side too. I read some fairly conservative blogs, and decided to comment on one point of conservative orthodoxy. I agreed with 80% of what the blog author said but had a different view of the other 20%. I don't know if the comments were moderated or not, but the author could have deleted my comment, or replied via private email (since that site required email addresses to comment), but rather he published it, then posted a vigorous counterattack. Fair enough, it was his blog. But then his little cabal of frequent commenters began the ever more vicious cycle of comments, and changed the attack on me from content based to ad hominem. At that point I deleted the blog address from my favorites list. Life is too short to waste on idiots.
